On his release from Vellore prison where he was detained under POTA since July 2002, MDMK chief Vaiko today said the alleged misuse of the anti-terror law and the political vendetta indulged in by Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa would be part of his party’s campaign in the next Lok Sabha polls.

Emerging from the prison to cheers and bursting of crackers by party workers, he said Prime Minister Vajpayee’s recent remarks at Kanyakumari that the state had made impressive strides under the AIADMK government, was ‘‘an atrocious lie’’. Vaiko said he had great respect for Vajpayee but took exception to the remark.

Meanwhile, the state government has moved the HC for cancellation of bail to Vaiko for alleged violation of bail conditions. Its earlier petition had been returned by the high court on technical grounds, police sources said. The government would file a fresh petition, sources added.
