In an unprecedented move, the Maharashtra government has directed Mumbai University to immediately announce the results of the engineering and law faculties and take stern action against teachers who have refused to assess the answer-sheets.In a strongly-worded letter to V-C Dr B.L. Mungekar on October 19, the Department of Higher and Technical Education has asked the university to explain why it has failed to announce results and not apprised the government of the reasons for delay. The examinations were held in May and June.It is binding on a university to announce results within 45 days of the examination under Section 72 of the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994. The state government has exercised its powers under Section 8(4) of the Act to issue this directive.Mungekar admitted he had received the letter and said that the university was acting on it.The government has also directed the university to appoint a high-level team to investigate the cause of the delay in announcing the results.
