June 4: Varun Taneja from Delhi is poised for a double after making the final of the CCI Open snooker tournament beating Manav Panchal 4-3 (82-48, 90-25, 5-74, 45-60, 75-42, 44-54, 76-17) in a closely-contested semifinal, today.Taneja also features in the billiards final where he plays K Tulshan tomorrow.

Ashok Shandilya braved illness to put it across Khansaheb 4-1 (72-52, 58-42, 8-65, 72-17, 49-7) in the other semi-final.

Fr Agnel’s prevail

Father Agnel’s beat Rizvi SC 3-1 in the Colaba Young Star First Division WIFA football knockout tournament at the Cooperage, today.

Eusebio Mascarenhas, Santosh Shinde and Ian Antao scored for the winners with Melwyn Fernandes reducing the margin for Rizvi. In Senior Division action, Central Bank and Colaba You ng Star drew 3-3.

Kohli moves up

Former Thane District champion Vijay Kohli beat Ramesh Chavan 25-14, 25-5 in the open singles first round of the Bindumadhav Thakre Memorial State Ranking carrom tournament at the Sir Elly Kadoorie High School, Mazagaon, Mumbai.

In another first-round result former State champion Ajay Shinde beat Gopichand Gore 25-10, 25-11 while Mangesh Palshetkar rallied to beat Rajesh Gaddam 0-25, 25-12, 25-10.

Bhosale wins

Rishiraj Bhosale bt Pratik Sawant 21-6, 21-11 in the cadet boys third round of the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association Ranking TT tournament conducted by Ghatkopar Sports Club and sponsored by Neelkanth Developers played at Sarvodaya Hospital Hall, Ghatkopar today.Shivam Nayak got the better of Nandan Samant 21-10, 21-3 in another cadets’ match of the third round.

Sujan Narvekar took three games to beat Alok Shah 20-22, 21-19, 21-6 in a sub-junior boys second-round match.

Sportscraft rally
