The Congress today queered the pitch for the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu by appointing G.K. Vasan as president of the faction-ridden Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC). A Rajya Sabha member and son of the late G.K. Moopanar, Vasan was appointed following the resignation of incumbent president S. Balakrishnan and working president E.V.K.S. Elangovan, the Congress said today.
His image as a ‘‘neutral’’ leader would be crucial for the Congress in state politics which is sharply polarised between the AIADMK and the DMK.
With his appointment, the party high command seems to be hoping that it would be able to keep its front open with both the regional parties in case it decides to go in for an alliance.
