Standing by his decisions in national team selection matters, chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar today said the moves were paying dividends as India were rising up in the world rankings.

“When we took it (selection) in our hands, we were No. 7 at the ICC rankings, now we are No. 2 and we hope that we will be No. 1 very soon not only in Tests, but even in One-Day Internationals,” Vengsarkar told a television channel.

Vengarsarkar’s remarks came just a day after surprising omission of senior players like Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in One-Day International team for next month’s triangular series in Australia, which became a subject of debate among cricket experts and enraged fans.
