BJP president Venkaiah Naidu today said the party would contest the coming Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh on its own ‘‘as of now’’ and did not see any possibility of an electoral tie-up with Samajwadi Party.

‘‘I do not see any possibility of BJP and SP coming together. We will contest on our own in UP. That is the situation as of now,’’ Naidu said after the BJP Karnataka unit’s state council meeting here.

On an alliance with the Mayawati-led BSP, he said the BJP was not for it. Over the alliance with AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, Naidu said there had been no discussion so far on the issue. ‘‘We will discuss alliances at an appropriate time.’’ To repeated questions on a tie-up with Jayalalithaa, Naidu said: ‘‘I do not want to discuss about individuals and parties without formally discussing the issue in the party.’’

Asked if the doors were still open for the NCP to join the NDA, Naidu said: ‘‘Whoever accepts Vajpayee’s leadership is welcome.’’
