SURAT, DECEMBER 24: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has cancelled its proposed Hanuman idol installation ceremony and convention at Bilmoda, scheduled to be held on Friday. The VHP, however, is “unhappy” with the decision.

The decision to cancel the proposed programme was finally taken early on Thursday after a lengthy meeting attended by the Collector, District Superintendent of Police and about 35 leaders of the VHP, HJM and Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad. The meeting was held at Navsari VHP Vice-President Rasik Surti’s residence and last through the night.

The VHP claimed that it was forced to cancel a “purely religious ceremony” which was planned over a month ago.
