PANAJI, OCT 19: Ban on religious conversions with strict action against anti-national activities of missionaries in Tripura, inclusion of ban on cow-slaughter in the Constitution and scrapping of the Tehri dam project to protect the River Ganga, were the three important resolutions passed at the two-day meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Dharma Sansad Margadarshan Mandal which began at Ponda on Tuesday.

These resolutions, recommended by the Advisory Council of the Dharam Sansad, are likely to be passed at the Prayag Kumbh Mela where the mammoth Dharam Sansad will be held. The date for the proposed construction of the Ram temple would be finalised at the concluding day of the meeting tomorrow, disclosed senior VHP leaders Acharya Dharmendra and Praveenbhai Togadia to pressmen here.

Elaborating further, Acharya Dharmendra said that the VHP considered the menace of church-sponsored anti-national activity, Islamic fundamentalism and Naxalism, as the three principal threats facing the nation and Hindutva.

Regarding ban on cow slaughter, the Acharya disclosed that the six-month deadline, which was agreed to by the Government, following the hunger-strike by Shankaracharya of Kanchi peeth was about to be completed, following which the VHP would persist with the Centre to implement its long-pending demand.

Besides, the historical and sociological importance attributed to River Ganga in India had to be protected at all costs and hence the VHP had clearly warned the Centre to immediately halt the construction work of the Tehri dam.

He said they would launch a nationwide awareness campaign on these issues, following the Kumbh Mela at Prayag in January 2001. The Acharya finally called upon the elite to unite to save the nation from the prevailing chaos.
