The VHP today vowed to construct a temple in Ayodhya using its ‘‘own force’’ as thousands of its activists courted arrest on the second day of its weeklong ‘‘Satyagraha’’ to press for the restoration of the undisputed land to the Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas.VHP working president Ashok Singhal said the Hindus would construct the temple with their ‘‘prachand bal’’ (enormous force) if the A.B. Vajpayee Government did not return the land it had acquired from the Nyas. MP from Gwalior (BJP) Jaibhan Singh Pavaiyya was among those who courted arrest today. The protesters were led by VHP vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore and Udipi Mutt Madhvacharya Vishvesh Tirth.Kishore told reporters later that the Sangh’s support to any party in the general elections would depend on its promise to facilitate the construction of the Ram temple.
