Army Chief Gen N.C. Vij will visit the US Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters in Florida, as well as the Special Operations Command, next month.Col James Hill, the US Air Attache in India, confirmed Gen Vij’s visit to CENTCOM, stating that the Army Chief will hold discussions with senior US military leaders during the tour, which will last almost a month.Vij’s visit comes in the wake of India’s demand that the three service headquarters have a direct dialogue with CENTCOM, which deals with Pakistan and West Asia — both areas of great strategic interest for India — rather than US Pacific Command, which looks at South-East Asia and India at present. A high-level delegation led by Vice Admiral Byce from Integrated Defence Headquarters had, in fact, visited CENTCOM late last year for similar discussions.
