NEW DELHI, July 19: After victories in the fourth round, Indian challengers, Abhijit Kunte and S Vijayalakshmi, suffered defeats in the fifth round of the World Junior Chess championships at Zagan, Poland according to information reaching here.Kunte, black, suffered a setback when he ran into No 4 seed Ruslan Ponomariov of Russia. Kunte, seeded 32nd in the tournament, has three points from five rounds and is tied for the 18-32nd places.Vijayalakshmi (3), seeded 14th in the tournament, played with black pieces and lost to fourth seeded Elina Danielia.In the fourth round, Kunte beat 77th seed, Graham Morrison of South Africa while Vijayalakshmi beat Patricia Llaneza of Spain.Russian Evegeniy Najer leads with a clean record of five wins in five rounds.SASIKIRAN FALTERS: In the Canadian Open, where there are 188 players in the fray, 16-year-old Krishnan Sasikiran went down to Johann Hjartsson of Iceland in the seventh round at Winnipeg, according to information reaching here.Sasikiran, who began with three wins in a row, lost his fourth round and then won fifth and sixth rounds. He has five points after seven rounds and is placed 15th.
