
CALCUTTA, DEC 4: Industrialist Viren J Shah took oath as Governor of West Bengal at a star-studded ceremony in the Throne room of the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.
The 70-year-old city-born Shah was administered the oath of office in Bengali by acting Chief Justice Satya Brata Sinha.
Shah the first industrialist to become Governor of the state, is also the first Governor in recent memory to take the oath in Bengali.
Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, his Cabinet colleagues and Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Atish Sinha were present along with Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramode Mahajan.
