It’s breakfast time at the village and there is one item outside the mess that’s selling like hot cakes newspapers. The newspaper war, which was a happening event in this city, has not been extended to the village, yet.

But, wait, it could still. One saw a hoarding of a prominent newspaper in the village, exhorting the participants to read it. If the rivals come to know of it, they may make a beeline for Koramangala with the paraphernalia to advertise their product.

Any major event, like the National Games, are occasions for the

state tourism department — Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation in this case — to work overtime.

They have set up an office there in the village.

And, in the National Games Kit, given to all participants, there are several brochures giving detailed information of the tourist spots, how to get there, range of hotels, tariffs etc. Even in the office set up there, you are given more brochures. And the man sitting in the desk is overeager to help you.

However, one-day trips are more popular and so the KSTDC’s conducted tour of Bangalore is a hit. So also are sightseeing visits to Mysore. The KSTDC has made it convenient for the participants by starting the tours from the Village itself.

The route from the village to the Koramangala indoor stadium could be, metaphorically speaking, a road to stardom. But, it could also literally be a road (or path) to hell. To reach the venue, the Judokas and their supporters had to do a little bit of long jump, trekking, high jump and even imitate a downhill skater as the iron rods jutting out on the way could cause grevious injury. But the path to stardom is tough, isn’t it?
