VADODARA, Dec 21: In keeping with its efforts to ensure better solid waste management in the city, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has put forth before the Standing Committee a proposal to purchase 150 more garbage containers at a total cost of nearly 31 lakhs.
The corporation had earlier purchased 300 garbage containers to collect solid waste from various parts of the city. The civic administration has sought a go-ahead to finalise the deal for additional containers with the lowest bidder at the cost of Rs 20,945 per container.
The administration has also sought a Committee redressal on the pending matter of finalising a deal with the consultancy firm A I C Watson for preparing a master plan for storm water drains in the city. The decision on the same has been on the hold for a month.
In another proposal, the office of the City Engineer has recommended that a panel be constituted to check the quality of materials used in major public works undertaken by the VMC as well as to supervise the execution of the works. The administration has suggested that the municpal commissioner be authorised to appoint the panel members.
GIVEN CHARGE: CITY Engineer B K Desai and in-charge Additional City Enginner B S Trapasia have been given charge of deputy municipal commissioners of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s east and west zones offices, respectively, for a period of six months.
In a circular, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria has asked the administration to start work to commission the east zone office. The office will cover administrative ward numbers 1, 2 and 9. The west zone office will cover administrative ward numbers 6 and 10. Earlier this year, the VMC had commissioned north and south zone office for effective administration.
