VS Govt, self-financing colleges near 50:50 deal

Yet another victory is in sight for Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan. The self-financing professional college issue is finally coming to its logical conclusion with both engineering managements and the state Government reaching an in-principle agreement on 50:50 formula for management and government quota seats at the meeting held here on Wednesday.

Self-Financing Engineering College Managements Association President G P C Nair told reporters after the meeting that the remaining issues would be settled at the next round of talks. Education Minister M A Baby said a circumstance for reaching a settlement has been reached. The Government would not go back from the 50:50 ratio, he said.
