NIMES, FRANCE, Oct 23: World champion Jan-Ove Waldner’s hopes of winning his second World Cup title rose, here when he was drawn in a fairly easy group which should see him progress comfortably into the quarter-finals.

The four-day event that comences tonight, comprises 16 champions from every continent and is outranked only by the World Championship and Olympics.

Sweden’s Waldner won the event in 1990, and has collected every other title in the world, and the $36,000 top prize will provide extra incentive. His Group A rivals are: Jean-Michel Saive (Belgium), Damien Eloi and Christophe Flegout (both France).
