That the Pappey Bhai affair could remain in the air for a while became clear today when Mosur Nagrajan Dorairajan, the Indian team manager for the Asia Cup, called for a BCCI probe into the episode. Rajan had been blamed by BCCI secretary S K Nair, for allowing masseur Sohail Ahmed access to the team.

Speaking to this reporter over the phone from Chennai, Rajan said: ‘‘Let there be a crystal clear inquiry into the whole affair. Let Nair also find out who gave Abbas the required pass to enter the dressing room and who provided him with India colours.’’

A livid Dorairajan, throwing more light on the affair, revealed that Ahmed was carrying a letter of appreciation for his services from the India team manager during the Pakistan tour.

‘‘If he had such good credentials and the players were so keen to hire him, why should I be blamed? Nair as a BCCI secretary should have given clear instructions before the start of the tourney. Wasn’t he aware that Ahmed’s travel and stay with the team in Pakistan was paid by the players themselves?’’
