LUDHIANA, Jan 3: A Sum of Rs 126 crore would go towards providing modern medical equipments of international level and medicines in 150 hospitals under a Rs 422 crore World Bank project to be implemented by the Punjab Health System Corporation.
This was disclosed by Punjab Finance Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh, at a function held to inaugurate a general medical camp organised by the managing committee of Gurdwara Singh Sabha at Guru Gobind Singh Charitable Dispensary, Model Town Extension, here today.
The finance minister said that during the last two years, the state government had taken concrete steps to strengthen the medical hospitals and dispensaries in Punjab. Sixty ambulances equipped with the latest medical equipment are to provide medical facilities in the rural areas on the spot.
Capt. Kanwaljit Singh also said that nursing and other para-medical staff are to be trained in the latest techniques. He said that the new buildings for eight hospitals were also being constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore during this financial year.
