Just a week ago they made history by reaching the final of the World Cup. Today, they can’t even get a pass to a match in their hometown. So while the revamped Kotla stuffs itself with VIPs, Anju Jain, Amita Sharma and Jaya Sharma — three Delhi players who turned out for India in last Sunday’s final — will have to watch the match on TV.

Their teammate Anjum Chopra, a former national captain, does have a pass — but only because her father is a DDCA member.

‘‘I received a VIP pass in an envelope this morning but that was only because my father had a right to it as a member’’, said Anjum.

Amita was more phlegmatic. ‘‘Even some of their own ex-cricketers haven’t got a pass so how can I expect one?.’’

DDCA Sports Secretary Sunil Dev admitted to the goof-up but said the DDCA couldn’t be blamed.

‘‘Yes, we would have extended an invitation but there was no such request from the Women Cricket Association. There’s no such tradition of giving them passes and, given the lead-up the match, these things can slip out of mind.’’
