Billed as the costliest Indian film ever to be made, Robot, a science-fiction, reportedly turned down by both the Bollywood biggies, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, will feature superstar from south, Rajnikant.

Even as the debate rages on as to how much producer A V M Saravanan spent to make Sivaji, shooting for the latest mega film, estimated to cost a staggering Rs 100 crore, will begin soon.

Rajnikant fans, still relishing Sivaji, will be treated to the most “grand and entertaining film ever made in India” and as the name suggests, “a hi-tech film with state-of-the-art technology.” The film will once again bring together the magical trio — superstar Rajnikant, director Shankar and music maestro A R Rehman.

The three are expected to weave yet another mind-boggling thriller.

According to Ayngaran International and Eros Multimedia, producers of the film, Robot will be made in Hindi, Telugu and other languages. Director Shankar is in the process of finalising the technicians, said a press release.

The storyline has been kept a secret just as the identity of the heroine in the film. But according to industry reports, the film is about a scientist who invents a robot and subsequently faces trouble with his creation.

According to grapevine, Shah Rukh Khan was to play the lead role in Robot as well as produce the film. However, “creative differences” ended up in Khan walking out of the project. But eager fans, treated to a coin-tossing and gum-chewing (which replaced the cigarette-flicking) Rajnikant in Sivaji, can’t wait for yet another of their hero’s film with his famous gimmicks which have become style statements.

Back in the film-drenched Dravidian land, the Rajni mania continues to hold sway. Whether Sivaji — The Boss was a success or not in strict box office terms, several Rajni remakes and remixes have hit the screen including the latest hit Billa, starring actor Ajith. Very similar to Don, Billa is a remake of a Rajnikant film with the same title, which had been a huge success.

There is also talk that yet another Rajni hit, Murattu Kalai, among the early successes of the superstar, would be remade with lead role played by actor Vijay, popularly dubbed as ‘junior Rajnikant.’

Pollathavan with actor Dhanush, Rajnikant’s son-in-law, is seeing a successful run thanks to two ‘remixed’ songs, Engayyum Eppothum and Ennamma Kannu, sowkiyama from two early hits of the superstar.

While Sivaji is still playing in theatres across Tamil Nadu, cheered on by gustily whistling fans, Robot is expected to increase the superstar’s stature in the southern film industry further.
