20% Central procurement to be from micro,small enterprises

The government on Tuesday approved a public procurement policy under which Central ministries,departments and PSUs will set an overall procurement goal of minimum 20 per cent of total annual purchases of products or services by micro and small enterprises (MSEs). Out of this 20 per cent target of annual procurement from MSEs,a sub-target of 20 per cent will be earmarked from MSEs owned by SC/ST entrepreneurs.

Announcing the Cabinet decision,Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni described it as “path-breaking”,adding that it was in line with the Congress manifesto.
