20 feared dead as boat capsizes in West Bengal

Twenty persons are feared drowned as a boat carrying about 100 tourists from Delhi,Lucknow,Bareilly and Moradabad capsized in the river Muri Ganga

Twenty persons are feared drowned as a boat carrying about 100 tourists from Delhi,Lucknow,Bareilly and Moradabad capsized in the river Muri Ganga at Kakdwip,South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. While the bodies of six people have been recovered,15 are still missing. One person has been admitted to the Kakdwip hospital.

The incident took place at Lot 8 near the jetty at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. The tourists were coming back after visiting the Kapil muni ashram in Sagar island. Altogether,226 pilgrims were in the party.

The police and the district administration have started search operations for the missing persons. Divers from Kolkata were pressed into service,according to Debkumar Nandan,SDO Kakdwip.
