3 TN teachers held for flogging student

Three teachers of a private school in Tamil Nadu were suspended,and subsequently taken into custody by the police,on Saturday for allegedly flogging a student.

The class IX student of Little Flower Higher Secondary School in Perambalur initially also alleged that he was made to drink his urine but a probe by the police revealed the charge was baseless.

The boy returned home from the school hostel Friday with bruises on his arm and back and told his family that he was flogged by three teachers Sakthivel,Karuppaiah and Raja for repeatedly seeking permission to attend natures call on Thursday.

The teachers,the boy alleged,refused permission and then beat him up and forced him to drink his own urine. On Friday,he returned home to Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district and was admitted to hospital. His family then informed the police.

The police found that the boy was indeed beaten up the school authorities said he was punished for carrying chewing tobacco but his allegation that he was made to drink urine was false. The education officers who visited the school Saturday confirmed the polices findings.

The officials,however,suspended the teachers as corporal punishment is banned. Later in the day,they were taken into custody by the police.
