A 50-YEAR-OLD businessman died of swine flu in Rajkot on Monday,the first H1N1 death in Saurashtra and the seventh in Gujarat.
According to his family members,Rajesh Ungahad had not traveled to any swine flu-affected area but had been to many Janmasthmi fairs,two days before he reported symptoms of swine flu.
In Bangalore,a 50-year-old woman was amongst the latest victims of H1N1 on Monday.
In Pune,which has been worst hit by the H1N1 outbreak in the country,a two-year-old girl,who was suffering from a liver disorder,died at the Command Hospital late on Sunday night. She had been admitted to the hospital on August 21 after she tested positive for the H1N1 virus,health officials said.
The Rajkot victim was admitted to Workhardt Hospital on August 20 and tested positive for H1N1 two days later,said authorities at the private hospital,adding that Ungahd was a diabetic and hardly responded to treatment. Before being admitted to the hospital,he took treatment at two private clinics after falling ill on August 17.
Two more suspected cases were reported in Rajkot,including that of a boy whose sister is admitted in Workhardt Hospital. Besides,a woman has also been admitted with flu-like symptoms.
Across the country,137 confirmed cases were reported on Sunday,with the most from Chennai (41 out of Tamil Nadus 45) followed by Delhi (38). Pune reported 19 fresh cases and Mumbai 5 out of Maharashtras 28. Bangalore accounted for eight out of the nine fresh cases in Karnataka while Kerala reported 10 cases.
Out of the 137 positive cases,six cases have history of foreign travel while the rest were indigenous.
As on August 23,the official nationwide death count was 63 with Maharashtra reporting 37,Karnataka 14,Gujarat 6,Tamil Nadu 3,Delhi 2 and Kerala reporting one death.
