As the inquiry into the suicide of college lecturer Ritu Kalmotia — in which Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Pradeep Kumar Sarpal, his wife and son Siddharth have been named — was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID),the roznamcha (daily register) of Boileauganj Police Station has thrown fresh light on the alleged ‘unofficial visit’ of the IG to the crime scene in Dhanda (Totu) on March 28.

“We have transferred the case for investigation to the CID,and IG (CID) O C Thakur would supervise the investigation,” said Director General of Police G S Gill.

Additional Station House Officer,Boileauganj Police Station,Mathura Das — who is also named in the FIR — had made an entry into the roznamcha at 11.25 am on March 28,saying “the IGP called the station landline and asked for SHO Gurdeep Singh to meet him outside the police station in 10 minutes,in plainclothes. Since the SHO was out on evidence case, the IG asked for sending the next in line”. In his evening entry,Das says the IG did not specify the purpose of being escorted and did not disclose where they were going either. On reaching Ritu’s house, they broke open the door with the help of neighbours and the IG went to the room where the victim was found hanging.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family said they would meet Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to seek a CBI probe into the case,a demand also made by Leader of Opposition Vidya Stokes in the Assembly.
