Less than a year after the Income Tax Department raided the premises of K S Oils, the BJP has made its chairman,Ramesh Chand Garg, president of its industry cell.
I-T sleuths in March last year raided K S Oils premises in half-a-dozen cities in and outside Madhya Pradesh and detected tax evasion to the tune of crores of rupees.
Congress lashed out at the BJP,accusing it of promoting corruption. But the BJP defended the decision, saying Garg had paid Rs 25 crore tax after the raids and there was no liability against him.
He is the highest tax payer in the state that is why he was raided, said BJP spokesman Hitesh Bajpayee.
But Congress leader K K Mishra is not impressed. He had no choice but to pay the tax,but that does not take away from the fact that there was tax evasion, he said.
When contacted,Navin Jain, the companys contact person, said he would get back with the chairmans version but did not.
