Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday evening met his West Bengal counterpart,Mamata Banerjee,at the Writers Building. He was accompanied by SP general secretary Kiranmoy Nanda.
At the end of the meeting,Mamata said: I am grateful to the honourable Chief Minister for taking out time to meet me. We discussed what new schemes we were working on in our respective states. We had a good interaction and will meet again.
Akhilesh said he was very happy to meet Mamata. I am happy that Didi has given me time,we are thankful to her. You have come to power after much struggle… nothing can be achieved without struggle… this government is working for improving the condition of the poor, he said.
The relationship between the two parties had soured after Mulayam backtracked on the issue of supporting candidates proposed by Mamata during the presidential polls.
SP insiders, however, refused to give much importance to the meeting, terming it a mere courtesy. Since Akhilesh has come to Kolkata, protocol demands that he meets the CM, said a party functionary.
