The outcome of the all party meeting on Kashmir has disappointed both factions of the Hurriyat Conference. They say they have now been left with no option but to continue the ongoing agitation.
New Delhi is not ready to accept Kashmir as a core issue. This nips in the bud any effort to find a lasting solution to Kashmir dispute, said hardline Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs speech at the meeting,he said, failed to recognise the basic reality of Kashmir. When you are not ready to acknowledge that a problem exists, how will you move to address it.
Geelani said New Delhi has not responded to his five conditions for reviewing the ongoing stir and as the first step towards a credible engagement. New Delhi is not ready to give up its rigid position on Kashmir. And the outcome of the all party meet has demonstrated it beyond any shade of doubt, Geelani said. We will continue our peaceful struggle for resolution of Kashmir dispute.
Geelanis moderate counterpart Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is also disappointed. It is sad that New Delhi finds it difficult to even partially modify AFSPA. This makes highly doubtful its ability to take some bold steps to address the Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said.
Responding to the PMs allegation that some violence was orchestrated,Mirwaiz claimed the violence in Tangmarg, where a Church-run school was burnt, was instigated by government agencies.
Everybody in Kashmir knows who were the perpetrators of the carnage in Tangmarg. The people identified have connections with the government, he claimed.
