AMU polls: No woman in top 3

Although none of the four women candidates running for the top three posts of the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union has won,Maryam Ilyas Siddiqui a final year undergraduate made it to the 10-member Cabinet. Maryams victory was expected,but what is disappointing is the defeat of two other women candidates, said a student activist. Thanks to the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations,the students union which had existed at the Womens College of the university was dissolved in the AMUSU. This meant that women were contesting for the top posts of the AMUSU for the first time.
