Army-cops clash: Blame game on,probe ordered

The traffic police and mediapersons registered two separate police complaints against the two Army officers Captain V Advait,Lieutenant A B Pandit and their colleagues,accusing them of manhandling the policemen,mediapersons and locals after they were caught at Tilak Chowk for riding on a two-wheeler in a no-entry zone.

Captain Advait,Lieutenant Pandit and about 40 other Armymen have been accused of rioting and causing hurt to public servant on duty in the complaint by the traffic personnel.

According to the FIR,after a lady traffic constable stopped Captain Advait and Lieutenant Pandit at the no-entry zone,they allegedly got angry and called colleagues,who went on a rampage,beating policemen and locals. They also barged into the Sambhaji police outpost and damaged furniture.

The Army said,The concerned officers have been debarred from leaving CME premises. The HQ CME is in liasion with the local police authorities.

It said after the two introduced themselves as Army officers,the lady constable took the keys while a second male constable started abusing Capt Advait,roughing and manhandling him,stating that since he was once roughed up for traveling without his helmet in Army area,he would now get back at him.

It said the officers informed their course mates,who arrived at the police station around 8.10 pm. Realising that the constable was still aggressive and abusive,the officers also had an exchange of words with the constable, the Army said.
