NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday laid the foundation stone for Delhi’s first halfway home in Dwarka. The halfway home is the first in a series of government initiatives aimed at rehabilitation and providing vocational skills to mentally improved patients. The home has a capacity of 25 patients and the government plans to build four more in Delhi. Dikshit said,Mentally improved patients take time to reintegrate into society and make themselves useful. These homes will go a long way in helping them forget their illness and separation from society. According to the Social Welfare Department,the home would also include a day-care centre,which can service 100 patients.

Four held for Metro cable theft

NEW DELHI: Four persons were arrested on Saturday for stealing Metro cables. Police said they recovered cables worth Rs 2.5 lakh from them. Three of them Mohammad Samir (26),Naushad (29) and Liyakat Ali (27) would steal the cables and sell them to Asghar (50). They were arrested from the parking lot of Shastri Park Metro station. They used to steal Metro cables and sell them as copper scraps. The stolen cables were recovered from Asghar’s godown, DCP (Crime) Sanjay Jain said.

Woman kills self in Saket court complex lock-up

New Delhi: A 36-year-old woman,was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a lock-up inside Saket Court complex. Police said Meena Devi was an undertrial in a dowry case,filed by her stepsons wife. On Saturday afternoon,she had been brought to the court for a hearing in the dowry case.

Meena Devis hearing was scheduled for 2 pm and she put in the lock-up till her hearing came up.

No suicide note was recovered from her possession,police said.
