The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has asked the UP government to provide foolproof security to the university in the light of Swami Aseemanands confession.
AMU vice-chancellor Professor P K Abdul Azis on Tuesday wrote a letter to the UP Chief Secretary and Aligarh District Magistrate seeking adequate security for the university, its students, teaching and non-teaching staff and their families .
According to the alleged confession of Swami Aseemanand, the university is one of their targets. Aseemanand was arrested by the CBI in Haridwar in Uttarakhand in November last year.
AMU is the symbol of Muslim education in India. The state government should view this reported threat seriously and initiate all security measures, said Rahat Abrar,AMU spokesperson.
