A fortnight after they sought West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees support for their Jan Lokpal Bill,Team Anna today accused the Trinamool Congress of plotting the demise of UPA-II in order to seek fresh Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the gathering at Ramlila Maidan here,Team Anna member Shanti Bhushan said: It is the Trinamools opposition that prevented the government from tabling the Bill in the Rajya Sabha today.
The reason for its opposition is that it is itching to have Lok Sabha elections right away so that it can increase its strength. It does not have too many members now but given its landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly polls earlier this year,it wants to immediately cash in on that. That is why Congress is showering financial packages on the state, but that will not help its cause, he said.
Barely two weeks back,Hazare and Kejriwal had urged Banerjee to put pressure on the UPA on the Lokpal issue.
The Trinamool Congress had then maintained that it would stick to the UPAs stand but sprang a surprise in the Lok Sabha yesterday when its MP,Kalyan Banerjee, accused the government of bringing a Bill that is against the federal structure.
Bhushan also accused Congress MPs who were not present at the time of voting on the constitutional amendment Bill of trying to scuttle Rahul Gandhis chances of becoming prime minister.
