Bill to punish assault on doctors in Assam

The Assam government has come up with a Bill to penalise persons found guilty of assaulting doctors and involved in cases of ransacking health institutions in the state

The Assam government has come up with a Bill to penalise persons found guilty of assaulting doctors and involved in cases of ransacking health institutions in the state. The Bill also seeks to protect medical students.

The Assam Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence & Damage to Property) Bill,2012,which was tabled in the on-going winter session of the Assembly,proposes to penalise a person with up to three years jail term and fine up to Rs 50,000. Moreover,it provides for the guilty to pay compensation for the damage. Crimes against both public and private healthcare institutes are proposed to be recognised as cognisable and non-bailable.
