BJP backs SP chief over Rahul comment, says dump UPA govt

While echoing Mulayam Singh Yadav’s opinion regarding Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s capabilities, the BJP on Wednesday dared the Samajwadi Party to withdraw its outside support to the UPA government

While echoing Mulayam Singh Yadav’s opinion regarding Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s capabilities, the BJP on Wednesday dared the Samajwadi Party to withdraw its outside support to the UPA government.

“The truth is that in the last eight years,we have not heard Rahul Gandhi speak. We have not heard him speak about corruption, price rise and poverty. Whether it was 2G spectrum scam,we never heard a single statement from Rahul Gandhi. We have not heard him speak on the coal block allocation scam,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said on Wednesday, echoing the sentiments expressed by SP leaders at their meet in Kolkata.

“Since the last one and a half to two years, the country has faced several challenges, but I have not heard any serious opinion on these from him (Rahul Gandhi),” SP general secretary Mohan Singh said on Wednesday, adding,“So,how can I say that the future of the country will remain safe in his hands?”

“… a person who is not fit at 42,what assessment can we have that he will be fit at 52?” Rudy said about Rahul, elaborating that he was curious about the Congress leader’s administrative and political abilities.

The BJP described the SP as the Congress’s “crutches” for the last eight years, and dared Mulayam to withdraw the party’s outside support to the UPA before projecting itself as the future alternative. “If the SP feels that the UPA government is corrupt,it is not too late for the SP to withdraw its support to the government,” Rudy said.

Given SP’s intention of forging a non-BJP,non-Congress alternative, the BJP dismissed the suggestion asserting there was no space for a third front and it was the BJP-led NDA that was an alternative to the Congress-led UPA.
