BJP in no hurry,BSY will have to wait

Yeddyurappa said he was satisfied with the direction of progress

Former chief minister and Lingayat strongman in Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa may have to wait for some more time before he can be reinstated to the top job in the state once again.

The BJP’s central leadership on Thursday heard both sides — Yeddyurappa as well as Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda — in lengthy meetings throughout the day but party leaders indicated that any announcement either way would take some time, maintaining consultations would also be held at the core committee level. “Party president Nitin Gadkari will take an appropriate decision in consultation with the central leadership. He has also advised all parties concerned to maintain strict party discipline,” chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

For his part,Yeddyurappa said he was satisfied with the direction of progress. “I am happy with the outcome of the meeting. I am confident that party president and the party will take the right decision in the interest of the party and the people of Karnataka,” he said. Significantly,he was accompanied by general secretary in charge of the state Dharmendra Pradhan.

At the same time,Sadananda Gowda also announced that he had been assured by the party high command that there will be no change of leadership “at present” in the Karnataka government. He denied that he had been asked to step down.

Gowda, who called on senior party leaders including LK Advani,Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, apprised them about the decisions taken by his government in the budget session in Karnataka. He also briefed them about the defeat in Udupi-Chikmagalur bypolls, conceding that the lack of unity in the party led to the loss of the seat. Gowda said the defeat was a serious matter and needs to be analysed. “It is BJP’s seat, not Sadananda Gowda’s seat. BJP lost it,that is why we are worried,” he said.
