Granting temporary reprieve to BJP MP Ashok Argal, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed him exemption from appearing personally before the trial court on November 3 in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam.
Justice M L Mehta accorded the relief to Argal while hearing his anticipatory bail petition. The court sought response from the Delhi Police, seeking its reply on his bail plea by the next date of hearing on November 14.
During the hearing,Argals counsel sought protection from arrest, saying he was the complainant in the matter and hence, should not be dragged into the case. The trial court will further hear the arguments on the next date.
The trial court had summoned the BJP MP on October 14 after the Delhi Police named him as an accused in its supplementary chargesheet filed on October 3.
