BSNL starts 1st mobile service at Amarnath
New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot and Kuldeep Goyal,CMD,BSNL,launched BSNLs mobile services at the holy Amarnath cave on Monday. The minister made the first call to NN Vohra,the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir,from the holy cave. The Amarnath yatra route,thus far not served by any telecom operator,will now enjoy telecom services for the first time.
Rakesh Singh joins Financial Services
NEW DELHI: Rakesh Singh,an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Punjab cadre 1978 batch,on Monday joined the Department of Financial Services as the new additional secretary. Prior to this,he was with the Department of Information Technology,Ministry of Communications and Information Technology,as an additional secretary. Singh has worked with Department of Financial Service the as joint secretary from October 2006 to May 2008.
Cochin Shipyard net up 24% to Rs 200 cr
new delhi: Despite having a tough year when international demand for liners was low,the Cochin Shipyard has registered a net profit of Rs 200 crore in 2009-2010 compared with Rs 161 crore in 2008-09 clocking 24 per cent growth year on year. As per provisional unaudited results of the company,the Shipbuilding income in 2009-10 was over Rs 1,000 crore compared to Rs 986 crore in 2008-09. The ship repair income during the period,however,was around Rs 230 crore as against Rs 270 crore in the previous year.
L&T gets IRDA nod for general insurance
New Delhi: Insurance regulator IRDA on Monday allowed L&T General Insurance Company,promoted by the Larsen & Toubro group,to enter the general insurance business in the country. L&T General Insurance Company Limited… has been registered as a General Insurer under Section 3 of the Insurance Act,1938,with the Authority, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) said in a statement.

Priced at Rs 4,the offer is the lowest cost card currently available in the market and is aimed at enabling more people at the grass-root level to stay connected,Vodafone said.
UB to sell locally produced Heineken
New Delhi: UB Group firm United Breweries Ltd on Monday said it is planning to locally produce Dutch beer brand Heineken by the next fiscal,besides launching a refurbished Tiger brand in India this year. The company did not share details on plans to brew Heineken beer in India.
