‘Binayak provided support to Naxals’

NEW DELHI: The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday opposed the petition of rights activist Binayak Sen in the apex court seeking bail and stay on his life term for his links with Maoists,saying he was involved in providing safe hideouts and logistic support to hardcore Naxalites. The Chhattisgarh government was responding to a March 11 notice on the petition by Sen challenging the rejection of his bail by the high court on February 10.

Vyarawalla gives her award to Parsi trust

VADODARA: Honoured recently with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award,India’s first woman photographer,Homai Vyarawalla has decided to give the medal to New Delhi-based Parsi Heritage Trust. With no descendants after her,the 98-year-old photographer said that the medal might fall in the hands of wrong persons,just like a bag full of her photo negatives,which was stolen earlier. She also requested the trust to keep her camera,film rolls and other equipment,which she says would motivate other Parsis.

‘Gandhi book in India this month’

Boston: Joseph Lelyveld’s said his controversial book on Mahatma Gandhi will be available in India later this month,and he is hopeful that the storm over his work will subside. The book will be published in India “within less than three weeks” and will be widely available in the country,he said.
