Vedanta: Oppn seeks Naveen resignation

Bhubaneswar: A combined Orissa opposition on Tuesday,the first day of the winter session of Orissa Assembly,demanded the resignation of CM Naveen Patnaik over the HC judgement on Vedanta University. Last week,the Orissa HC while disposing a slew of PILs on land acquisition for the proposed University had termed the process illegal as the Anil Agarwal Foundation building the institution was not a public company as per the requirement.

Container vessels collide in Hooghly

KOLKATA: Two foreign container vessels collided head-on in the Hooghly river in South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday,leaving both the ships damaged. The collision between the ships,Green Valley and Tiger Singh occurred at about 11:30 am at the confluence of the Hooghly and Rupnarayan rivers near Nurpur under Ramnagar police station area,police sources said.

40 in hospital after gas leak in Mumbai

MUMBAI: At least 40 persons were on Tuesday hospitalised with breathing problems after inhaling poisonous ammonia gas which leaked from a tank in a cold storage room of a company in Navi Mumbai,the police said. The leakage was plugged this afternoon and the situation is now under control,they said.

Assam: Tiger kills 2,shot dead by cop

Guwahati: A police constable on Tuesday shot down a full-grown Royal Bengal Tiger after the latter had killed two persons in a village in Morigaon district. The tiger,a full-grown male,which is believed to have crossed the Brahmaputra from the Orang National Park four days ago,had created panic in villages in the district,killing several domestic animals. While forest officials made several attempts to tranquilise it,the tiger entered a human habitation in the morning and killed two persons,following which a police constable shot it down.

Kerala: Relief to endosulfan victims

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government on Tuesday unveiled a relief package for the endosulfan victims,which includes debt relief measures and pension for those rendered physically incapable due to the ill-effects of the pesticide.The relief measures were worked out at a meeting convened by CM V S Achuthanandan here.
