CBI team lands in Denmark for Davy extradition

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Danish High Court’s verdict on extradition of Purulia arms drop case prime accused Kim Davy,a CBI team reached Denmark on Monday to assist the local authorities. The High Court is expected to pronounce its judgment on Thursday. The Indian government is hopeful that the High Court will clear the decks for Davy’s extradition to India.

PM reviews security with service chiefs

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday chaired a security review meeting with the three armed forces chiefs as well as the Defence Minister and National Security Adviser. The meeting took place days after a similar review was carried out within the Defence Ministry in the aftermath of the killing of Osama bin Laden.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday decided to hear as a PIL the contentious issues between the Air India (AI) and its pilots leading to strikes and sought a response from the national carrier on the circumstances affecting its smooth run. A Division Bench,headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra,issued a notice to the AI and put off the matter for hearing in August.

Maoists kill manin Warangal

HYDERABAD: Suspected Maoists on Monday shot dead an official of AP Rayon Corporation at Kamlapur in Warangal district. Two persons entered the factory premises when deputy general manager Rama Krishna Rao and manager (HR) D Sadanand were boarding a vehicle,and opened fire on them. The police said Rao suffered three bullet injuries and died on his way to hospital while Sadanand was wounded in his left arm.

AMU teachers’ body intensifies stir

ALIGARH: The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association on Monday intensified its ongoing stir to “oust” Vice-Chancellor P K Abdul Azis and Proctor Mujahid Beg. “The relay hunger strike which has been going on for the past five days will now be turned into an indefinite hunger strike,” said the association’s secretary Mustafa Zaidi.

Militant killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed in an overnight encounter with the security forces in north Kashmir village of Zaloora. The encounter which started on Sunday night continued till Monday morning.
