Charges against Varun in hate speech case

Lucknow: A local court in Pilibhit has framed charges against BJP MP Varun Gandhi in connection with the alleged hate speeches made by him during campaigning for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajay Krishna,while hearing the case on Monday,ordered the prosecution to produce witnesses while fixing July 6 as the next date of hearing. The charges were framed against Varun under various sections of the IPC. Charges were also framed under Peoples Representation Act.

SI kills youth for harassing daughter

Etah: A sub-inspector allegedly shot dead a motorcycle-borne youth here for harassing his daughter,police said Tuesday. Rajendra,posted with the PAC in Aligarh district,on Monday fired at Rahul when the latter was on his way to his village,they said. The sub-inspector later surrendered with the licenced gun at a police station. He claimed Rahul was harassing his daughter and so he decided to kill him,they said. A case has been registered against Rajendra at Kotwali Sahawar police station.

Former LJP MP Surajbhan acquitted

Begusarai: Senior LJP leader and ex-MP Surajbhan Singh was on Tuesday acquitted by a local court in connection with a case relating to shooting in which a villager was killed in Begusarai district of Bihar in 1996. Fast-track court judge Dinanath Pandey exonerated the LJP leader from all the charges in the absence of sufficient evidence. The vehicle of Ratan Singh,former District Board President of Begusarai,was attacked by unidentified persons near Mokama on December 27,1996.

Mumbai encounter cop Angre acquitted

MUMBAI: A Thane court on Tuesday acquitted encounter specialist Ravindra Angre due to lack of evidence in a case registered by a builder accusing Angre of attacking him. Angre was arrested in Thane in June last year after Ganesh Wagh,a Thane-based builder,alleged that Angre tried to kill him near Wagle Estate. The clash between the duo was over a prime property in Thane along the LBS Marg. This is a second case where Angre has been acquitted. In March this year,Angre was acquitted by a court in an extortion case registered by Waghs brother Mohan.
