ATS picks up 3 more in Pune blast case

PUNE: The State Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has picked up three persons from Udgir,including Saber Mamu Patel who allegedly assisted the German Bakery blast suspect Himayat Baig in running the Global Internet Cafe,where the blast conspiracy was hatched. ATS sources said that Patel was more like a “hidden partner” in the cyber cafe. The ATS has also picked up Khurshid Alam,who preaches at a mosque in Udgir,and it is questioning Abdul Indori from Udgir. Deputy commissioner of police (ATS) Ravindra Kadam confirmed that Patel and Alam are being questioned.

7 tonnes of explosives seized

RAJKOT: In connection with missing explosives from Rajasthan,a team from Controller of Explosives (Vadodara) and Rajkot police Special Operation Group seized 7 tonnes of explosives from a sealed godown of a Rajkot-based trader Harkishan Aswani,who is now missing. The batch number of the seized explosives will now be compared with that of the missing ones to establish any link between the two.

Sonia to pick office bearers for K’taka

BANGALORE: Karnataka unit of Congress on Wednesday passed a resolution authorising party President Sonia Gandhi to choose its office bearers and executive committee. At a meeting here,senior party leader C K Jaffer moved a resolution entrusting the responsibility of naming office bearers to Sonia Gandhi,which was endorsed by several leadersincluding opposition leader in the assembly,Siddaramaiah.

MP to make income details public

BHOPAL: While promising to issue the income certificate on the same day or a maximum of three days,the state government said on Wednesday the income details would be pasted on the notice board of the issuing authority.The Public Services Guarantee Act that seeks to slap fines ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 5,000 on government officials for delay or failure in provision of services was passed on July 30.

Poachers surrender at Kaziranga

GUWAHATI: Five poachers on Wednesday surrendered before forest authorities at Assam’s Kaziranga National Park. The poachers surrendered at Bonkwal in outer fringe of the park with five firearms after they were motivated by NGO Rhino Jagaran Mancha,KNP divisional forest officer Dibyadhar Gogoi told PTI here.
