Taliban blow up two schools in Pakistan

Islamabad: Pro-Taliban militants on Wednesday blew up two state-run schools in Pakistan’s Khyber tribal region,where troops are conducting operations against the terrorists. The two school buildings in Bara sub-division of Khyber Agency were blown up with dynamite early on Wednesday though no one was injured in the attack,officials of the local administration said.

161 suspects in Philippine massacre

Manila: Philippine police on Wednesday named 161 suspects in the massacre of 57 people last month in the country’s worst election violence. The suspects included militiamen led by members of a powerful clan facing murder and rebellion charges. Witnesses have said Andal Ampatuan Jr,a scion of the clan,led the group of militiamen who attacked a rival’s convoy on November 23 in Maguindanao,police chief Jesus Verzosa told reporters.

Briton convicted of plot to blow up plane

London: A Briton who was part of a terror cell run from Pakistan,was on Wednesday found guilty of conspiracy to murder over a foiled plot to blow up passenger jets bound for North America in 2006. Adam Khatib,22,was convicted following an eight-week trial at the Woolwich Crown Court here.

‘Militants will take on Pak Army soon’

ISLAMABAD: Tehrik-e-Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud has claimed that the militants have not lost their morale due to a major military offensive in South Waziristan tribal region and said they have “conserved” their energy to take on the Army when it snows. “We will wait till January for our offensive since we are stronger during the snowing season,” Hakimullah said in a phone call to CNN.
