The CBI on Tuesday started the questioning of mining baron Manoj Jayaswal in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in coal block allocations. The director of Nagpur-based Abhijeet Group,Manoj,was summoned to the CBI headquarters Tuesday afternoon. His questioning was on till late at night. He is likely to be called for examination on Wednesday as well.

Manoj’s brother Arvind,also one of the directors of AMR Iron and Steel and among those named in the CBI’s FIRs,was also examined for the second consecutive day. The two were jointly examined by the agency regarding the coal block allocation to AMR Iron and Steel. Manoj

was also examined regarding his association with Congress MP Vijay Darda and the Lokmat group. Manoj and the Dardas were jointly allocated several coal blocks between 1999 and 2009,said officials.

CBI officials said Arvind appeared before the agency in the morning along with Abhishek Jayaswal,son of Manoj,but sleuths sent the latter back as he was not called for questioning on Tuesday.

Manoj is also named in two other FIRs filed by the agency against JLD Yavatmal and JAS Infrastructure.
