Reliance Telecom,Uninor and Swan, which have been chargesheeted by the CBI in 2G spectrum scam, today said they would comment only after studying the details of the charge-sheet.
The CBI media release itself states that the charges are based on its own investigations, and the accused are presumed to be innocent, till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial. The chargesheet is being studied, and as legally advised, the persons so named deny the charges, and will defend themselves in the appropriate legal proceedings, a Reliance Telecom spokesperson said today.
The CBI in its chargesheet in 2G spectrum scam filed
We understand that CBI has named Uninor and its chairman in the first charge-sheet filed today. Since we have not received a copy of the charge-sheet,we are not aware of the charges made therein and, therefore, cannot comment, a Unitech Wireless spokesperson said.
It,however, asserted that Uninor obtained the telecom licences, along with 8-9 other players,in 2008 after complying with the applicable DoT guidelines at a fee prescribed therein.
We maintain that neither Uninor nor any of its officials have done anything inappropriate or illegal, the spokesperson added. A spokesperson of Swan Telecom Director Vinod Goenka, who has also been named in the chargesheet, said the company is also awaiting the details of the chargesheet. We will be able to respond only after we have studied the details, he said.
Former telecom minister A Raja and 8 others, including former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura and three telecom companies, were named in the chargesheet.
