The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a response from the CBI on a petition alleging a cover up by the agency to shield a Maharashtra-based businessman, who allegedly ran a parallel fake stamps scam along with Abdul Karim Telgi.
While issuing a notice,a division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjeev Khanna directed the agency to look into its records and check if one Hemant Dubey was ever named as an accused, besides Telgi,in the scam.
The petitioner has alleged that it has all the documents to prove that Dubey ran a similar scam even before Telgi’s name figured as a prime accused. “The fake stamps scam surfaced in an FIR registered in 2000 and is,in fact,an older scam than the one by Telgi.
The CBI had obtained reports of India Security Press confirming that the samples of fake stamps did not match with Telgi’s fake stamps,” stated the petition.
The petition further accuses the CBI of sweeping Dubey’s scam under the carpet due to some vested interests. “While the fake stamps scam of Abdul Karim Telgi has come to an end with the recovery of his printing press in June 2002,the parallel scam of Hemant Dubey and others is yet to be unearthed and the printing press involved in the scam is yet to be recovered,” stated the petition filed by advocate Deepak Anand.
The court has fixed the matter for August.
