Outmatched by the more vociferous supporters of Telangana — belonging to the TRS — back home in Andhra Pradesh,Congress members of Parliament displayed banners calling for the formation of Telangana during the President’s address to the joint session of Parliament.

Some 10 members, who had occupied two benches in a planned manner, got up from their seats and waved the banners which read: “Jai Congress,Jai Telangana.” They also carried pictures of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Two party members,Anu Tandon and Rajiv Shukla, could be seen trying to persuade them to resume their seats.

Two other members, seated at a distance, also made a half-hearted attempt to show the two smaller Telangana banners which they were carrying, but failed to attract attention.

Later, when the President headed towards the exit after the address, the Congress members were back in action. They again raised their banners and shouted slogans.

Meanwhile,Congress MPs from Telangana decided to write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to demand the recall of Governor E S L Narasimhan, even as TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao landed in New Delhi to put pressure on the Centre to carve out a separate state of Telangana.

Congress MPs said the Governor has been “partial” and has been trying to “quell” the Telangana movement. “The Governor’s behaviour is not becoming of a Constitutional head. He is against Telangana state and has been interfering in day-to-day government activities ignoring elected government. We feel only an impartial person who comes from public life can give justice to people. All 11 Congress MPs from Telangana have, therefore, decided to write to the PM demanding the Governor’s recall,” said Nagarkurnool MP M Jagannath.
