Even as it came under criticism for applying a different yardstick by refusing to take action against Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit in the wake of the V K Shunglu report blaming her for losses and delays in Commonwealth Games projects, the Congress on Monday said the Centre will look into the matter before coming to any conclusion. The committee has submitted its report to the government. It is for the government to go into its merits and come to appropriate conclusions, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said. Dikshit came under attack from the BJP after the Shunglu report indicted her government for lapses. The Congress, the BJP said, had taken prompt action against former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan after his name cropped up in the Adarsh scandal, and removed Suresh Kalmadi Organising Committee chief and as Congress parliamentary party secretary. The BJP also said that while the Centre acted swiftly on the first Shunglu report by acting against then Prasar Bharati chief BS Lalli,it dithered over the second and third reports. Tewari, however, preceded his defence of Dikshit by saying that Congress has always believed that whoever has committed any indiscretion. needs to be punished. Meanwhile, the Congress stepped up the attack on the BJP over the WikiLeaks report, maintaining that the latest revelations had exposed their double face and double tongue. Chickens have come to roost sooner than later after failing to raise substantive issues and take recourse to hearsay, Tewari said.
