With the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) rapping the government for allowing the Delhi International Airport Limited to collect development fee from passengers,a CPI(M) MP today alleged the CAG report has proved there was a criminal conspiracy on the part of the government to help the private airport developer and demanded a thorough probe by a federal agency into the matter.
CPM Rajya Sabha MP K N Balagopal alleged the government, including the Prime Minister, was well aware of the malpractices that were being carried out by the private developer in the name of developing the airport. Addressing a press conference,he said steps must be taken to retrieve the money illegally collected since collection of development fee was not part of the contractual agreement.
Balagopal said he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in August last year arguing that collection of development fee at the Delhi international airport was illegal. I followed it up with two more letters to the Prime Minister and many letters to the Civil Aviation Minister… We had red-flagged the government. And now all the points raised by me have been vindicated by the CAGs report, he said.
